Cyber-Security Czar Howard A. Schmidt Needs Help with His Website

Cyberczar  Apparently the corporate website for Howard A. Schmidt, the new Cyber Security Czar, remains under construction (via Seattle Weekly) . While the Washington Post reports "Schmidt's resume reflects experience in the private sector, law enforcement and government," his website would not get him in the door for an interview in most private sector IT firms.

The site is powered by 1&1's Website Builder but unfinished. While many of us own domains that we don't run completed sites on, this appears to be the home page for his R&H Security Consulting LLC. He was previously hired by the Bush Administration as an advisor on cyber security issues.

This American Life Asking for Donations to Cover Bandwidth Costs

This American Life says it's spending $130,000 annually on bandwidth for its podcast. Why isn't a popular show like this using Bit Torrent?

Miro_thislife

Miro, the open source torrent player, makes downloading This American Life quite easy. It's also quite easy to use.

I installed Miro and downloaded the latest show #1 Party School via BitTorrent in less than two minutes.

Am I missing something or could the show save a ton of money by encouraging people to use a BitTorrent downloader? I love the show but should donors pour good money after bad uses of bandwidth?

Perhaps the show could create a custom download of Miro (it's open source) that installs with an automatic subscription to This American Life?

Has big Internet (Comcast, et al.) sewn the seeds (no pun intended) for fear of BitTorrent and discouraged innovation? e.g. Why doesn't iTunes use BitTorrent?

Five days after MicrosoftTaxDodge.com goes live, Bing doesn't even know it exists. Google brings it right up. Methodology: Web search for Microsoft Tax Dodge on both Google and Bing.

Tax_google_news Tax_bing_newsGoogle News search turned up a link to a story on the Seattle Weekly about the site whereas Bing News had only one unrelated hit.

I'm not claiming Bing is filtering out bad news about Microsoft just that Google remains superior at indexing new sites with relevant news.
