Crosscut Seattle - The trouble with Green Lake

story photo

Crosscut has a major feature today on the history and issues with maintaining water quality in Seattle's most popular park Green Lake. It's also near and dear to my heart as I live near the lake.

Ticketmaster certainly not convenient

My Ticketmaster tickets were never delivered. It took 20 minutes on the phone to have them left at will call and ask them for a refund of the "convenience charges" of $18 which clearly failed to make the transaction convenient for me this time. My request was denied. That's how you run a megacorporation and keep profits up...who needs consumer good will when you have a near-monopoly!

Note to Seattle Theater Group & Moore Theatre: Don't renew your Ticketmaster contract. There are alternatives.

DNA is 55 years old today

In 1953, Watson and Crick discovered DNA via x-ray diffraction. A snapshot of today's news demonstrates the impact of its discovery: The Senate voted to ban DNA discrimination by health insurers, Tyrannasaurus Rex was linked to chickens, a murderer was linked to a stabbing, a convicted rapist was freed, paternity claims against the late James Brown are to be tested, DNA will prove if minors in a Texas religious sect parented children, National Geographic announced the entire human race emerged from one Eve whose clan almost perished to drought and a Canadian nonprofit lets visitors share genes with friends on Facebook.

Facebook seems slower with chat

Is it just me or has Facebook slowed down significantly since they added online chat? I think the javascript for their online chat is slowing Firefox down a lot. Pages take a lot longer to complete loading. Hopefully, they'll allow you to turn off this feature or improve it soon. Google chat is much better at this point.

Viacom Continues Hostility to RSS and Canada

Since launching its new Web site for The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Comedy Central, whose parent company is Viacom, has not yet offered an RSS feed for clips of the popular show. As it releases new shows, such as Lewis Black's Root of All Evil and Lil Bush, it does so without providing an RSS feed for clips, as it used to for earlier shows. Meanwhile, Viacom blocks Canadian surfers from visiting the new Daily Show site, the U.S. Comedy Central site and from watching video clips embedded across the blogosphere. Canadians trying to watch clips of South Park's recent Canada On Strike episode see Terrence and Phillip saying "Good News Buddy!".
